Installing RC Steel Tubular Rear Bumper on 2025 RAM 1500
If you check Rough Country web site you will see that the bumper is for 19-24 RAM 1500. What is funny, when I ordered it the
title said 19-25 RAM 1500. And the actual metal shell fits very well. The evel is in the details.
Here is my order. You can see that they thought it should fit my 2025.
The things that required adjustments:
- TPS receiver
- Blind spot sensor
- Cross traffic sensor
- License plate lights
TPS receiver on my truck is 3 times longer than the one on the pictures in the installation manual. So, I had to mount it like this:
Blind spot sensors are originally mounted under plastic bumper extensions. They don't work if covered by metal. I had to cut holes and print special brackets to mount them in
proper positions. Unfortunately, when not covered with plastic the sensors are too sensitive and detect every tree on the sides of 8 lane freeway. I will have to print
polycarbonate covers for them and adjust to the proper thickness to make sensors work.
Installing cross-traffic sensors was another PITA. Originally they are located under the same cover forward of the blind spot sensors. I did not have space for another hole in the bumper.
So, I mounted them beneath the bumper. They work, but I will have to rethink this later.
Original 2025 RAM 1500 license plate lights are smaller than they were in previous years. At first I ordered lights on Amazon. But the truck said that there is a short in the lights.
I even tried to order another version with no luck. So, I removed the content of one pair of oredered lights and carefully transferred the original PCBs into those shells. Note: some cutting
is required to position connector pins correctly. Then I sealed all this with epoxy glue. Truck happily recognized the lights.
Note: If you try to drive with disconnected blind spot sensors or with disconnected cross traffic sensors you will get a pretty permanent error on your dashboard. It can only be cleared
with advanced OBD tool. Cheap ones won't recognize the error.
Update 1 (11/11/2025)
As with the ACC bracket, this way of sensor positioning was wrong. I had to look at the OEM bumper and measure all angles. To make it
look better I made another cut in the bumper and positioned both sensors within the bumper.
Here are the STLs. But they most likely won't work for other bumpers. I designed the mounting brackets for the driver side and then mirrored them to
use for the passenger side. And they did not fit. I had to redo them for the passenger side from scratch. So, I am postin just one set as an example.
Rear Bumper Sensor Mounts. I cut the covers from a sheet of black polycarbonate (3 mm). For the big
sensor I used M4 screws with heat-set M4 inserts.
